I can work together with you or your loved one(s) in a variety of ways. I offer individual, couple, and family therapy; I also facilitate three groups at A New Beginning for specific populations affected by eating disorders. The following information briefly describes each therapy service offered.

Individual therapy is a special time for one person to explore any aspects of their lives that they would like to improve. Many people in individual therapy report enjoying their “me” time, in which they can focus on themselves and receive undivided attention and support. Sometimes, people in individual therapy eventually decide that they would like to bring their partner in for couple therapy, or other family members in for family therapy.

Couple therapy is designed to help partners struggling with some aspect of their relationship. Couples may seek therapy because they want to improve their communication, strengthen their trust in each other, increase their intimacy, prepare for cohabitation or marriage, move past an affair, decide if they want to stay in the relationship, develop non-abusive forms of communication, or work on their parenting skills, just to name a few.
I am specifically trained in Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy, which is a type of therapy that focuses on helping partners identify their negative cycle of interaction, express important emotions and unmet needs, and then turn to each other for support and comfort. This approach has been researched extensively and is one of the most effective and efficient forms of couple therapy. To learn more about this type of therapy, click here.

Family therapy is an ideal option for people in a family system who want to work on improving their relationships and resolving problematic issues. Family therapy may include parents, children, siblings, grandparents, cousins, or anyone whom you consider “family.” This form of therapy is uniquely beneficial because it provides all members a chance to voice their thoughts and feelings in a safe and nurturing environment facilitated by the therapist.
Group Therapy
At A New Beginning, I facilitate three groups:
1)Eating Disorder Adolescent Therapy Group
This group is open to adolescent females in high school who are working towards recovery from anorexia and/or bulimia. Sessions focus on various aspects of recovery from an eating disorder, such as distress tolerance, development of new coping skills, peer and family relationships, and identity development, to name a few. Specific session topics are determined by the group participants. Group participants must also be involved in individual therapy, either at A New Beginning or elsewhere - this ensures that any issues raised in group can be fully explored in a subsequent individual session. If you or your loved one is interested in joining this group, please call (480) 941-4247 to schedule a complimentary 30-minute screening.
* Meeting day & time: every Wednesday from 4:00-5:30pm
* Cost: $60 per session per person
2)Eating Disorder Adult Therapy Group
This group is open to adult men and women (18 years and older) who are working towards recovery from an eating disorder. Sessions focus on various aspects of recovery from an eating disorder, such as coping with anxiety, strengthening familial and peer relationships, challenging perfectionistic thinking, communicating needs, and establishing a balanced life, among others.
* Meeting day & time: every Tuesday from 12:00-1:30pm
* Cost: $60 per session per person
3)Family & Friends Psychoeducation and Support Group
This group is open to any family members and friends of loved ones affected by eating disorders. Participants are given the opportunity to ask specific questions about eating disorders, while also sharing their personal experiences as a support person - many find it so refreshing to have a safe place to express their anger, sadness, and resentment towards the eating disorder. As the facilitator, I provide current research findings about eating disorders as it relates to the current topic of discussion (e.g., evidence-based treatment, medication, genetics). Your loved one with the eating disorder does not need to be in treatment in order for you to attend this group - all support people are welcome. You can come to just one group or attend multiple sessions - it’s entirely up to you. Due to limited seating and high demand, please call in advance to reserve your spot. (480) 941-4247
* Meeting day & time: 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month from 6:30-8:00pm
* Cost: $50 per session per person
